How to beautify your new home’s backyard

Blog image.pngNow that you’ve chosen your dream home and made it through the move, there’s nothing more exciting than infusing the new place with your personality.

When decorating your new home, it’s important to pay attention to the exterior as well as the interior. Bedrooms, lounge rooms, bathrooms and kitchens are all essential parts of your home, but if you put the necessary energy into your garden, you’ll extend your living space, increase the value of the home and create an outdoor oasis to enjoy for years.

Use these tips to maximise the living space in your backyard.

Add some lighting

When you think about your backyard, don’t limit its use to simply the day or early evening. Outdoor lighting is an easy and often inexpensive way to give you an area you can enjoy at all hours.

It also allows you to change the aesthetic of your garden by highlighting its strong features. You can shine light on the pool and decking area to make sure it stands out, or you could hide any weaker features. Our eyes are naturally drawn to light, so use this power to your advantage.

Create division and contrast

Creating divisions and contrast in your yard makes it more visually appealing and enlarges the area. There are many ways you can do this, but the easiest is through pathways. Installing paths makes your backyard more accessible and an additional benefit is that they keep the inside of your house cleaner as people don’t have to trek through dust and grass.

There are a number of material options to choose from, but if you want something that is cost-effective, durable and low-maintenance, you can’t go past concrete. The best part is, you can select a number of concrete finishes to make your paths look like natural stone and tile without paying the costs associated with these materials.

Paint the walls green

Not literally, but with plants and foliage. Vertical gardens and green walls are very popular at the moment because they are the perfect response to the ever-shrinking Aussie backyard. Blocks are getting smaller, and many new homes may not have a lot of room to play with.

By using vertical spaces as a garden, you open up the area and make it more relaxing; plus you could save yourself money on heating and cooling costs too. You’ll also make your yard a healthier space as plants improve air quality.

Outdoor kitchen?

If you love entertaining outdoors, your backyard needs an outdoor kitchen. An outdoor kitchen will add value to your home, make your yard a hit with visitors and it also means the chef doesn’t have to miss out on the party. You can also keep your kitchen cleaner and ensure all that barbecue grease stays outside.

These tips are just a small part of what you can do with your yard but you should feel comfortable to experiment to make the most of your exterior space.
